The Rangers biggest off-season moves... so far.

The Rangers' biggest off-season move was nothing they did, but it is what they didn't do. Behind all the headlines of signing a guy named after a company that makes board-games there is a small caption mentioning that the Rangers are't going to re-sign Brad Wilkerson. Hallelujah! Brad's stint in Texas was nothing more then a dissapointment. Maybe he never fully recovered from shoulder sugery in 2006? Maybe he just had to much pressure on him? I mean, when all was said and done, Wilkerson was the product of trading the three-time MVP, Alex Rodriguez. In two years with the Rangers, Wilkerson proved that his worth was not exceptional. The highlight of his tenure in Texas was when he hit three homeruns in one game against the Angels in 2007. Besides Wilkerson putting up mediorce numbers, he struggled with strikeouts. In Wilkerson career he boasts more strikeouts then hits, and has never finished a season hitting over .270. Brad your time in Texas was fun at times, but for the most part it was tumultuous.

"This year was harder, more so than last year," Wilkerson said. "Last year was a learning experience, this year was a lot harder. I felt like I was ready to do great things this year. I'm just disappointed the way it ended."

Sorry to break it to you Brad, but you dont get the 550 at bats that you got in Montreal. Your 2007 season was actually better statistically than your 2006. You had 18 more AB's, and 8 more hits to show for it. Not to forget you only had 107 strikeouts against 116 in 2006. So, you're dissapointed? Heck, We all are!

As for the signing of Milton Bradley. We will have have to see how this guys does. He is known for missing many games during the season. He has only once played more then 101 games in a season. Bradley who is coming back from knee sugery (he fell to ground after Bud Black had to restrain him from confronting an umpire on a bad call) won't be ready for opening day. His return date is unknown, but the Rangers awarded him a one year/5million dollar contract out bidding the San Diego Padres. Bradley will most likely fill the DH role if he is not well enough t0 play outfield.

Bottom Line: Milton Bradley is a productive player and is capable of sparking a fuse during the season. Unfortunatley, he is prone to injury. If his trend continues we will only have him 2/3 of the season. Also note that he is coming back to American League where he could utilize the DH spot if he is not healthy enough to play everyday outfield. Bradley and Washington know each other from their time in Oakland. Only time can tell for this guy.

Talk to me people!!

mario, you are completely correct in saying that the biggest waste of the texas rangers money and playing time was the signing of brad wilkerson...also, i don't give a shit who the hell the rangers sign if it isn't a pitcher. we can have alex rodriguez, sammy sosa, rafael palmeiro, ivan rodriguez, and still lose. it all starts with pitching and if we don't have that, then we are never going to win. Management took a step in the right direction when they signed kevin millwood a few years ago, but besides him, the rangers have yet to truly go after some BIG pitching names, like Johan Santana. we put a half-assed effort in getting him, and look what we have to show for it. Why not refuse to sign or go after Milton Bradley, along with the previous cutting brad wilkerson and some other heavy payroll-no results players and really make an offer he can't refuse?? BIG names want BIG money, so you just have to give it to them.

It's a shame that the Rangers management is building a small market team. Hicks and his cronies are obviously not interested in bringing a championship to Texas, rather, they are interested in creating enough buzz to keep fans hopeful enough to buy tickets. Whether they sign the “big bopper”, or have great offensive prospects, they find a way to gove up 35+ home runs and 120+ RBIs for someone who has the potential to do the same in 2-3 years. Wilkerson was a bust; but if the Rangers signed their future All-Stars and paid for some startomg pitching, where could this club be?

The policy of shipped out your prospects when they reach their maturity value-wise is disgusting. When you manage your roster with a spreadsheet, and use formulas to monitor Return-on-Investment and incremental marketing revenue with players, you can probably ensure you will maximize profits with your franchise. Hey, that Sosa signing should have given a staffer a nice bonus! Great marketing win!

The Tigers have shown they are there with the big boys...the Angels too. The Rangers are resigned to rebuilding before the year starts. Will Micheal Young be happy about his deal when the Rangers are trying to stay out of the cellar once again? Do you think that's what he signed up for? We'll know in July, when the Rangers put their cards down and leave the table. I hope I am wrong...

Thanks for the forum...

amac - no big player wants to come to the Rangers. This off-season is going terribly wrong. Torri Hunter practically spit in Daniels face by signing with the Angels. Gagne had to interest in coming back. Aaron Rowand signs a 5 yr deal with San Francisco. We didn't get that asian guy cause he went to the cubs... and just in, we traded Otsuka to the Mariners.
